kimbofo  > Travel > Denmark > Skagen - Kandestederne
Kandestederne is about 14km south of Skagen, on the northern most tip of Denmark. It's a quiet and secluded place by the sea. It comprises a handful of holiday homes, a couple of hotels and lots and lots of sand dunes.

We stayed in a fabulous house overlooking the Rabjerg Mile, a huge migrating sand dune, for a week during March 2004.

kimbofo > This was the main landmark in Kandestederne. When I peered through the window all I could see was a little green kitchen table. It would be the perfect place to sit and have a cup of tea while watching the ocean beyond.
kimbofo > There were lots of little houses like this one dotted across the wild dunes that make up this part of the peninsula.
kimbofo > We passed this lovely house, with its yellow walls and thatched roof, during the short 10-minute walk to the beach from our holiday home.
kimbofo > Another thatched house near the beach.
kimbofo > This hotel, closed for the winter, was just across the way from us. The architecture is 'typical Skagen'.
kimbofo > Our holiday home was in a secluded location. It was on a barely discernible track that had a handful of houses dotted on it, of which only one or two were occupied.
kimbofo > See what I mean by the 'barely discernible track' ?
kimbofo > That's Tim going in the front door of our holiday home.
kimbofo > We fell in love with this three-bedroom architecturally designed holiday home. It was only built in 2003, so had a very new feel to it.
