The black granite building with gold terracotta detail is the swanky Bryant Park Hotel overlooking Bryant Park.

We visited New York for four days in May 2005, specifically to attend a family wedding in Staten Island, but we also managed to squeeze in a couple of days' sightseeing in Manhattan.
