New York -- October 2007 : My third trip to New York was a lot of fun. I went solo, treated myself to a nice hotel, and spent five days shopping, sightseeing and walking everywhere!

Bike the Big Apple Bike Tour - October 2007 : Bike the Big Apple is a small company that runs scheduled and "on demand" bicycle tours around the five boroughs of New York. I opted for an "on demand" tour and chose the 8-hour "Bike Delight Tour" which crosses several bridges and is designed for those wanting a "unique, faster paced, and challenging ride". Luckily, there was one other person -- from Wales -- who wanted to do the same tour on the same day, so we split the cost and let our guide, the intrepid Jesse, lead the way. It was a brilliant way to see bits of New York I wouldn't normally have seen on foot. And despite its length -- 26 miles -- it wasn't too exhausting.

All these photographs were taken on Thursday October 18, 2007 using a Panasonic DMC-TZ3 digital camera. Note that most of them were taken while riding a bike (or at least holding a bike), so they're not always framed as nicely as I would have liked.

Top of the Rock - October 2007 : Top of the Rock is a three-tier observation deck on top of the 70-storey Rockefeller Centre, which affords amazing views over the island of Manhattan and beyond. I got there before the crowds. It was an amazingly sunny Saturday morning and the unobstructed views were breath-taking. I'd go so far as to say they were better than those afforded the top of the Empire State building and without the three-hour wait to get to the top!

All these photographs were taken on Saturday October 20, 2007 using a Panasonic DMC-TZ3 digital camera.

New York - October 2005 : Ahh, New York, how I love thee!

Two trips in less than six months. This was the second trip, and these photos are a mish-mash of sights and sounds I'll remember for a long time.

Empire State Building - October 2005 : We had to wait hours to get to the top of the Empire State Building. Once we got to the top it was so windy we could barely stand upright, and so we walked around the perimetre of the viewing platform twice and then got the hell out of there. Was it worth the time and trouble? You bet! The views were stunning.

Brooklyn - October 2005 : We took a leisurely stroll over the Brooklyn Bridge, then enjoyed an ice-cream at a pavilion below the bridge. We then walked along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and enjoyed the most amazing views of the Manhattan Skyline, before walking through the local High Street where we had lunch and checked out the markets.

These photographs were taken on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 using a Sony Cybershot WSC-1 digital camera.

Circle Line Tour - October 2005 : It was wet. It was wild. It was windy. But it was fun. We braved the elements to go on a three-hour boat trip around the island of Manhattan. It was an interesting way to see the sights and get a flavour for all the different aspects of New York, New York.

These photographs were taken on Friday 14 October using a Sony Cybershot WC-1 digital camera.
