Barrier Park : Barrier Park, in the London Docklands district, is the first public park established in London after World War Two. It features a sunken garden called 'The Green Dock' in which a series of hedges have been pruned to resemble waves. The park also affords great views of the Thames Barrier, designed to protect London from flooding due to excessively high tides.

British Museum : The British Museum, first opened in 1753, is located in London. It houses one of the greatest collections of human cultural history, if you're into that sort of thing (I'm not).

I took a quick visit one Sunday in September 2006 to check out the Great Court, the biggest covered square in Europe and was very impressed by what I saw.

St Pancras Old Church : St Pancras Old Church, a short walk from King's Cross tube station, is believed to be one of the oldest sites of Christian worship in London and in England. Well-maintained graves lie beneath green, leafy trees, making it a very picturesque place to visit. Some of the more interesting 'landmarks' to see here include The Hardy tree, the mausoleum of the architect Sir John Soane and the Burdett-Couttes Memorial Sundial.

These pictures were taken on a Sony Cybershot digital camera on Sunday 18 September 2006.

You can find out more by visiting the society's website: http://www.malden-dsme.co.uk/

We visited the railway on Monday, May 1, 2006 - and no, we didn't ride any of the trains, because we needed to borrow some children to get away with it!

Hyde Park : Hyde Park (including Hyde Park Corner) has a fascinating history. For a century or so it was the private hunting ground for the crown - namely Henry VIII. By the time James I came along, he gave the general public limited access to the grounds. Then when Charles I came to power, he made some landscape alterations and turned it into a public park in 1637.

Today the park is a beautifully maintained 140 hectare wadge of greenery right in the middle of west London.

The pictures in this gallery are a combination of photographs taken on a 35mm Canon SLR (and scanned in) and a Sony Cybershot DSC-W1. They were taken on various dates, namely November 2003, October 2004 and September 2005.

St Paul's Cathedral : St Paul's Cathedral is one of the world's most important architectural landmarks. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it was built between 1675 and 1710 - although it's the fourth cathedral to occupy the site and it took him three attempts to get the design approved.

The cathedral has hosted royal funerals and weddings throughout the ages. It survived the Blitz. And in 1997 it celebrated its 300th birthday.

Postman's Park : Postmans Park is one of London's best-kept secrets, hidden in the backstreets somewhere between St Paul's Cathedral and the British Museum.

As well as the normal park fare - seats, garden beds, lawns - it features a unique and strangely poignant memorial to ordinary men and women who lost their lives in the late 19th century carrying out extraordinary acts of courage.

These photographs were taken on Easter Sunday 2005 using a Sony Cybershot digital camera.
